Back to Work I Go

Today is my first day back to work after being off since December 23rd!  To be honest, I am glad the routine is back.  After a few days off, I tend to get some semblance of cabin fever.  That is not to say that I don't enjoy being off or taking a vacation.  I do very much!  But I do crave routine and too many days of not having definite plans and nothing I really have to do drives me crazy.

So today I'm back at work.  I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in this morning and saw my clean office after forgetting I totally reorganized and cleaned it during my last few days at work in 2010.  (See what too much vacation does to my brain.)

This week, I'm diving in head first with several work-related meetings, planning an event that has been scheduled at the last minute for January 19th (!) (please don't remind me that it's a mere 15 days away!), an organizational meeting for a heart ball fundraiser that I've been asked to help plan, and a Junior League meeting.

This year is also shaping up to be a busy one at work, or so it seems judging by the brief staff meeting we had this morning.

Away from work, I'm excited about the week for a somewhat ridiculous reason - it's time for the New Year's Goals to start.  I get so excited about goals and meeting them, it's crazy!

I have a good feeling about this year!  2011 is going to be the best year yet!

Just a random Wednesday night in Target.

After work last night, PC and I went to the gym (had a great workout by the way!), ate Chick-fil-A in the Target parking lot, and ran inside to get a few things.  Here's our trip in pictures.

Ouija Board.  When I was in 5th grade or sometime around then, my mom found one of these in the attic that she had when they were popular when she was a teenager.  My cousin was over at our house and her mom got so mad we were playing "that devil game" that my mom tossed it out.  I've always wondered if my aunt really believed those things worked or knew that we were really making it spell whatever we wanted.

I'm busy at work getting ready for a board meeting and a big event next week, plus finishing up things for our holiday showcase with Junior League that starts next Thursday.  Tonight is my first JL meeting of the year and I hope to be done in time for 30 Rock.

A Day Off? I think not.

I'm not one who likes to use my days off to do "real" things, but today, I did.  I took a sick day as I had a dentist appointment and my office operates under the assumption of if you have a doctors appointment, take the whole day.  Given as how my dental appointment was actually to get bonded veneers, it was a long one, so I went ahead and scheduled a hair appointment, too. 

I woke up thinking I'd have a nice "off" day, but that quickly changed.

My hair dresser was running thirty minutes late (my appointment was the first of the day), but she so kindly offered to bring me a drink.  (I love things like this!).  When she had the first few pieces of my hair in foil, my baby sister (she's nine years younger than me making her 15) called me from school because she nearly passed out.  She goes to a small, private school, and luckily, the school secretary was nice enough to bring her to me given the state of my hair.  Fast forward - my mom gets her into the doctor and I let her (my sister) drive my car the 1/2 mile to her doctor's appointment and tell my mom I'll take care of her (my mom's a teacher) since I'm off all day.  Needless to say, after my hair appointment, I end up sitting with my sister in the doctor's office. 

I came home and fixed her lunch and then got started on my committee for Junior League which took up the two hours I had to waste before my dental appointment. 

I spent the entire afternoon in the dentist's office and still have to go back for more.  Needless to say, I like my teeth.  :)

I've been home for about two hours and I just finished what I hope is the last of the work I have to do for JL... today. 

Even though it wasn't the relaxing "off" day I hoped for, I feel super productive!  Don't you love days like that?
